A slatemic is a built-in microphone on most professional mixers. Its intended use is to allow the production sound mixer to verbally identify the take information after he or she rolls recording.

1896  William Selig shoots The Tramp and the Dog, the first narrative film made in Chicago.

1901  Walt Disney is born in Chicago on December 5th.

1921  Balaban and Katz open their flagship palace,the Chicago Theater, on North State Street.

1934  John Dillinger is killed by FBI agents outside Lincoln Avenue’s Biograph Theater on July 22nd.

1955  The Compass Players, which evolve into the Second City theater company, stages its first revue in Hyde Park.

1968  The Democratic National Convention is held in Chicago, during which police clash in riots with Vietnam War protesters. Haskell Wexler and camera crew shoot the feature Medium Cool within the turmoil.

1979  Wheaton native John Belushi, along with pal Dan Aykroyd and Chicago born director John Landis, tears up the town filming, The Blues Brothers.
